“Eating Up the Oceans: How Do We Save Our Seas?” is the name of the upcoming premium six-part docuseries that will try to educate consumers about seafood and how it can help to restore our world’s oceans. Behind this innovative way to promote responsibly produced seafood are Fed by Blue, a new organization born to create awareness about how responsible fishing and cultivation practices have the potential to protect our waters, and two well-known names in show business, the producer and writer David E. Kelley and the celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern.
After the setback that Seaspiracy meant for the industry, not just the documentary, but all Fed by Blue project can be a good way to show that by producing and eating more of the right types of fish, seafood and seaweed, it is possible to find a sustainable way to restoring ocean health while feeding a growing population.
“It’s time to tell the stories of the water farmers, fishers, scientists, and activists bringing abundance back to our oceans”, has said in her LinkedIn account Jennifer Bushman, newly appointed Kvarøy Arctic Chief Marketing Officer, and one of the leaders of this new project, Fed by Blue, together with other two well-knonw names at the industy: Katherine Bryar, BioMar Global Brand and Marketing Director, and Jill Kauffman Johnson, Erol Foundation Director.

Equal parts nature documentary, investigative journalism, and food travelogue, “Eating Up the Oceans: How Do We Save Our Seas?” will seek to discover and educate viewers about science-based solutions for ocean conservation and food security. To achieve this, each episode will delve into a global issue regarding the world’s historic and growing dependence on marine resources, especially as a source of food. According to Fed by Blue, viewers will witness first-person stories that will connect them “to those most affected by our stressed marine waters”. Furthermore, each story will seek to demonstrate how the symbiosis of ancient solutions and modern innovations can impact the health of people and natural habitats. To that end, they will feature high-level experts and advocates who will help contextualize what is at stake and reveal “the many surprisingly hopeful paths we can take to a restorative future”.
As told, the executive producers of this nature docuseries are the 13-time Emmy award-winning producer and writer David E. Kelley and 12-time James Beard award and Emmy award winner, Andrew Zimmern. But, moreover than being two well-known names in show business, both are familiar faces in the seafood industry too. In Kelley’s case, in addition to his important TV career, he is the founder of Riverence, the largest grower of steelhead and rainbow trout in North America, with approximately 20 sustainably-managed farms. Zimmern, on the other hand, is known not only for the Bizarre Foods franchise and MSNBC’s What’s Eating America, but as a sought-after speaker on the topic of restorative water farming and its potential to boost local economies, regenerate marine habitat, and help feed a growing world population, besides of his collaborations with companies as Kvarøy Arctic or Verlasso.
