Last Tuesday, the 2026 edition of the Norway–UK Seafood Summit took place at Fishmongers' Hall in London, drawing a record number of attendees, as confirmed by the organiser, the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC).
Influential voices from the fishing and seafood industry, trade organisations, fisheries, retail, foodservice, media, and other sectors from both countries came together to collaborate and discuss the most pressing issues of our time.
"Norway and the UK share a long and proud history in the seafood trade, built on collaboration and trust. The annual Norway–UK Seafood Summit plays a vital role in strengthening this partnership by providing a unique platform for the sector to exchange ideas and shape the future of the industry," said Marianne Sivertsen Næss, Norway’s Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy, who attended the event.
For his part, the NSC's UK Director, Bjørn-Erik Stabell, stated: "This year's discussions highlighted the importance of securing the future of the industry through innovation, sustainability and, ultimately, collaboration."
Among all the attendees, standout contributions came from Catarina Martins of MOWI, who highlighted artificial intelligence and innovation in aquatech as key drivers for a more efficient and sustainable aquaculture sector.
Both Joe Shaw Roberts of Worldpanel by Numerator and Alexander Andersen of McKinsey also emphasized the importance of placing the consumer at the center of decision-making, pointing to the rise in at-home consumption and the growing popularity of seafood as a high-value protein.
Lastly, David Marston of William Murray pointed to strong growth opportunities for prawns in the out-of-home sector, while Daniel Howell of the Institute of Marine Research expressed cautious optimism about cod, haddock, and saithe stocks in the Barents Sea.
The organisation hopes that the Norway–UK Seafood Summits will continue to strengthen collaboration between the two countries and drive innovation to grow their markets.
