'Decisions That Lead to Better Results'. Under that title, a new edition of SustainED—the lifelong learning program led by the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and Ecuador's National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA)—was held last week, this time focusing on strengthening shrimp nutrition.
More than 100 professionals from companies and institutions across the shrimp value chain, including representatives from well-known firms such as Aker QRILL Company, Adisseo, BioMar, Corbion, dsm-firmenich, INVE Aquaculture and Skretting, met in Guayaquil—the port city that is one of the main centers of the shrimp farming industry in Ecuador—for the third edition of SustainED in 2026.
While the first technical workshop of the year focused on health management and seasonal changes in Ecuadorian shrimp production and the second focused on prevention ahead of El Niño and preparing for climate variability, last week's edition was designed to provide attendees with practical tools to optimize shrimp nutrition management.
To this end, SustainED brought together ten national and international experts who, through case studies, industry experiences, and scientific advances, analyzed the main challenges and opportunities currently facing shrimp nutrition.
The presentations addressed topics such as raw materials availability, feed formulation, precision nutrition, functional additives, and feeding technologies, highlighting their impact on the productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability of the shrimp farming sector.
"Shrimp nutrition represents one of the greatest opportunities for our industry to continue improving its performance," said Pamela Nath, Director of the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership.
"Today, we have science- and innovation-based solutions that enable more efficient use of resources while advancing toward a more sustainable and successful aquaculture industry. Through SustainED, we aim to bring this knowledge closer to producers so they can incorporate it into their decision-making and translate it into better practices," the SSP Director added.
For his part, José Antonio Camposano, the Executive President of Ecuador's National Chamber of Aquaculture, noted that the leadership of Ecuadorian shrimp has been built on the industry's ability to continuously evolve and strengthen its processes.
"Initiatives like SustainED help bring knowledge, scientific evidence, and innovation closer to those making decisions on shrimp farms, fostering continuous improvement that enhances the sector's competitiveness," CNA Executive President added.
