Mowi Canada will remove 188,000 salmon after the group found positive samples of the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus at its Newfoundland and Labrador site. The company has experienced similar incidents since the beginning of this year.
Thereby, the infection was detected and confirmed during routine sampling at its Chaleur Bay site. According to the company, this is due to a loss of sea lice, fish health treatments, and prolonged rough weather. Now, Mowi is making plans to depopulate the affected salmon.
In addition to this, the company reported in December the mortality of more than 70,000 salmon at its Northern Harvest Sea Farms operation.
Despite this, Mowi informed last month that it has almost doubled its operational earnings in the first quarter of 2022. The reason for this is that farmed salmon prices were still increasing during the start of the year.
