The Italian aquaculture producer organization OP DEL PESCE has confirmed the start of the first seeding of Seriola dumerili (dumeril's jackfish) at its Orbetello plant, completing the diversification of the organization's product offering alongside dorada, bass, and dentex.

For over 20 years, the group has been producing these species in Italy, guaranteeing the market high-quality, 100% Italian products from their origin. It has six production facilities in Italy, a logistics management center, and a fish farm that ensures production autonomy.

"Diversification is a strategic lever that allows us to strengthen our competitiveness and offer our commercial partners and end consumers new consumption opportunities related to Italian excellence in aquaculture," expressed Sales Director Salvatore Uttaro.

This product will be available on the market starting in the spring-summer of 2026, and according to DEL PESCE, it meets the needs of the General Distribution (GDO) market and the Hotels, Restaurants, and Catering sector.

Specifically, Piscicoltura Orbetello produces bass (or dorada), bream, and Red Drum. The facility was acquired in 2019 and is distinguished as the only land-based facility of the Group. It is located in the heart of Ansedonia, which has positive characteristics for fish farmed in land-based farms, and is recognized by the market for their highest quality.

According to the organization, the consumption of fish has increased significantly this summer in Italy. By mid-August, 57% of Italians chose to eat fish away from home. The importance of aquaculture is also growing, now accounting for 40% of national production.
