Japanese ARK Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Global Engineering, a company that will carry out a comprehensive fisheries business, including land-based aquaculture, in Abu Dhabi.

Global Engineering will participate in this comprehensive fisheries and land-based aquaculture business under the guidance of the Abu Dhabi Food Security Authority.

Meanwhile, ARK will provide production facilities to cultivate 30,000 tons of fish, which is the Abu Dhabi government's land-based aquaculture production target for 2030.

According to the Japanese company, it also plans to move forward with the SAKANANTIS project, a comprehensive fishery plant that could become the largest fishery facility in the world, covering everything from the production of fry and feed to selection and processing.

ARK Inc. is a company specializing in land-based aquaculture technology, designing and manufacturing closed and sustainable aquaculture systems (CRAS) for the cultivation of fish and other organisms.

It develops its own hardware, software, and designs for recirculation and management systems, and since its founding in December 2020, it has maintained offices and R&D laboratories in several regions of Japan, as well as a subsidiary in the United Kingdom.

In November 2024, Finnforel, a Finnish aquaculture technology company, also invested in the aquaculture sector in the region by signing an agreement with ADQ, an Abu Dhabi-based investment and holding company, to develop a state-of-the-art land-based fish farming facility.
