Aquaculture genetics company Benchmark Genetics has announced it has appointed Jon Crowther as its new Chief Financial Officer, describing the move as "marking a new chapter in the company’s financial leadership as it begins life as an independent company under Novo Holdings".

Crowther, a PwC-trained chartered accountant, was previously Finance Director of Benchmark Genetics, having served in the role since the company's formation in 2014. Prior to joining Benchmark, he worked in senior finance roles in a variety of sectors, notably as UK Controller at GE, a position he held for nine years.

"Over the past decade, Jon has played a key role in the development of Benchmark Genetics, helping shape a financially robust foundation for sustainable growth," the company said.

Crowther's new role as CFO will see him lead all apsects of Benchmark Genetics' global finances, leading teams in Norway, Iceland, Chile, the USA, the UK, and Colombia. He takes on the leadership role at a key moment for the aquaculture genetics firm, as it transitions from Benchmark Holdings to its new ownership under Novo Holdings.

"The acquisition by Novo Holdings puts us in a unique position to plan for the long term," Crowther said.

"It’s great to move from the short-term reporting horizon of a publicly-quoted company to the longer-term horizon of a PE-backed business. Benchmark Genetics is a business which will realise its true value under the ownership of Novo Holdings," he added.

The company recently announced another senior leadership appointment, with confirmation that Dr Ross Houston will be Benchmark Genetics' new Chief Scientific Officer.
