Norway has a new fisheries and oceans minister, it has been confirmed by a variety of Norwegian news outlets, including NRK.
The Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre has reshuffled his cabinet, with former Chair of the Storting's energy and environment committee, Marianne Sivertsen Næss appointed as Minister for Fisheries and Oceans.
Former Norwegian fisheries minister Cecilie Myrseth, who held the post since the last reshuffle in October 2023, will now move on to a new role as Minister for Trade & Industry. Both ministerial roles are within Norway's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
Næss is a former school principal and former mayor and deputy mayor of her home town, Hammerfest, a coastal community that is also the northernmost town in Norway. She has been a member of parliament for the Finnmark county in northern Norway since 2021.
Næss will now take over from Myrseth to become responsible for fisheries and ocean matters within the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. This includes overseeing fisheries and aquaculture policy, seafood policy, and maritime research and innovation policy.
