Norwegian aquaculture technology and certification firm Aquastructures has named Torbjørn Alstad as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Alstad joins Aquastructures from marine engineering firm Kongsberg Maritime, where he held several senior management positions since 2012, mainly focused on global aftermarket services for operating vessels, most recently holding a Senior Vice President role since 2019.
A native of Trondheim, where Aquastructures is headquartered, Alstad said in a news release he is "very much looking forward to getting to know Aquastructures, its customers, and partners better".
"I look forward to taking an active part in the company’s long-term strategy and planned growth," he added.
As part of the leadership changes, former Aquastructures CEO Marit Opheim will now take on the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the company.
Founded in 2002, Aquastructures began with a focus on applying marine technology expertise to Norway's aquaculture sector, and now employs more than 25 engineers and inspectors, with offices in Trondheim, Oslo, Bergen, Rørvik, Bodø, and Alta. The company developed AquaSim, a software tool for analysing flexible structures used in fish farming, provides engineering services for both sea-based and land-based facilities, and also specialises in safety certification, describing itself as "Norway's leading certification organization in the Norwegian aquaculture industry".
