Oman Bio Products Company, a subsidiary of Oman Flour Mills Company, has launched the first phase of an animal and aquaculture feed production plant in Khazaen Economic City, located in the South Al Batinah Governorate.

The first phase has an annual production capacity of 48,000 tonnes of animal feed and 15,000 tonnes of aquaculture feed. The estimated construction cost amounts to OMR 36 million (approximately €80.3 million).

The three phases of the project are expected to be completed between 2027 and 2030, at which point the country is expected to rely less on foreign trade and become a major importer of aquaculture feed.

The plant’s operations are based on recycling green agricultural residues and converting them into high-nutritional-value feed by adding dates that are not suitable for human consumption. In this way, the need to import hay will be replaced, resulting in a lower environmental impact.

"It is a strategic project with unique characteristics that reflects the national direction toward strengthening food security and adopting a circular economy," said Haitham bin Shakhboot Al Saadi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Bio Products Company.

Also, he added: "It is one of the first projects of its kind in the region, aiming to recycle agricultural and biological by-products, as well as date residues, and convert them into specialized value-added products."

According to the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman, Khazaen was selected for this project due to its direct connection to ports, airports, and border routes.
