The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) announced that the International Fish Feed Company (IFFC)—whose facility is based on the Special Economic Zone Authority Duqm (SEZAD)—has become the first Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certified feed mill in Oman.

It is worth remembering that GSA released an updated version of its BAP Feed Mill Standard, introducing new rules aimed at improving traceability and responsible sourcing in aquaculture feed production, which came into force last November.

Established in 2023 with an early-stage strategic alliance with Skretting, the GSA note highlighted that the Omani feed company has a state-of-the-art facility and boasts an annual production capacity of 31,200 metric tons of high-quality aquafeed, supporting responsible growth in the aquaculture sector in Oman and the region.

"Responsible aquaculture begins with responsible inputs," said Iain Shone, Director of Market Development at GSA. "IFFC's certification demonstrates their commitment to responsible feed production and reflects the kind of forward-thinking leadership that drives meaningful progress in the aquaculture sector."

"Achieving the Best Aquaculture Practices certification is a significant milestone for the International Fish Feed Company and a proud moment for the aquaculture sector in Oman," stated, for his part, Ajit Jacob, IFFC's Chief Operating Officer. "Being the first feed mill in the country to receive this recognition reflects our commitment to the highest global standards in quality, sustainability, and responsible manufacturing."

The COO of the International Fish Feed Company emphasized that, since its inception, the company has focused on building a world-class aquaculture feed production facility capable of supporting the rapid growth of aquaculture in Oman and the wider region.

"This certification reinforces our mission to provide reliable, high-quality feed solutions while contributing to the sustainable development of the seafood industry," Jacob added.

In the announcement note, the Global Seafood Alliance also said that IFFC's certification is further strengthened by the recent BAP certification of Musandam Aquaculture, an Oman-based sea bream producer that sources its feed from IFFC.

"Together, these certifications show increased alignment across Oman's aquaculture production chain and reinforces the country's commitment to responsible seafood production," GSA's release read.

Recently, we also learned about the launch of the first phase of Oman Bio Products Company, a subsidiary of Oman Flour Mills Company, an animal and aquaculture feed production plant in Khazaen Economic City.

Located in the Al Batinah Sur governorate, its activity is based on the recycling of green agricultural waste and its transformation into high-nutritional-value feed by adding dates unsuitable for human consumption.
