The startup Decameal, which produces feed ingredients for aquaculture from overpopulated and invasive crabs, has raised a €700K pre-seed round from private and corporate investors.

Additionally, it has secured a €1.4M grant under the Green Demonstration and Development program from Innovationsfonden, in collaboration with DTU - Technical University of Denmark and Aller Aqua.

Thanks to these contributions, the company based in Aarhus, Denmark, will focus on improving extraction methods, expanding its crab supplier network, and strengthening the documentation of quality, traceability, and climate impact.

Decameal is a member of the EIT Food Accelerator Network and was founded by biologists Happylan Natkunarajah and Leander Hessner, who specialize in the management and ecology of aquatic ecosystems and have a deep passion for preserving our oceans.

EIT Food Accelerator Network is an initiative of the EIT Food knowledge and innovation community, funded by the European Union through the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

"Congratulations to Leander Hessner, Happylan Natkunarajah, Mikkel Skorkjær Kongsfelt, and the entire Decameal team. This is green transition in action: solving real environmental problems, connecting them with industrial demand, and building scalable businesses with lasting impact," reads a statement from the EIT Food Accelerator Network.
