Worldwide Fishing Company (WOFCO) has taken over the management of Central Lomera Portuguesa (CLP), a tuna loin production plant previously shared by the Galician companies Marfrío and Atunlo in the border municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal.
According to the Vigo (Galicia)-based digital newspaper Atlántico, Marfrío took over management of the plant in 2024 following a Portuguese court's decision to remove the executives linked to the Coper and Atunlo groups.
With this acquisition, WOFCO signals its intention to strengthen its production and logistics network along the Iberian coastline. The Vila Nova de Cerveira facility is one of the most significant plants in northern Portugal in the tuna processing sector, specializing in the production of tuna-derived products.
Additionally, the Galician company acquired Fandicosta in 2024, a historic regional firm with a processing and cold storage facility in Moaña (Galicia), a move that increased its own industrial capacity.
Founded in 2016, WOFCO has established itself as one of Spain's top five seafood companies in terms of revenue. This success is due in part to its rapid growth in Northern Europe and the strengthening of its presence in the United States and Canada.
In 2025, the Regional Government of Galicia in Spain, the Xunta de Galicia, announced the allocation of €59.5 million in grants to support the creation of new business projects and enhance the competitiveness of existing ones in the aquaculture sector.
