The Norwegian construction and real estate development group Backe has confirmed that it will build the new facility in Bergen, to which Lerøy Seafood will move in early 2027.
Specifically, Backe has been awarded the turnkey contract by the property owner, West Coast Invest Eiendom AS, a Norwegian company that invests in real estate projects which are subsequently leased to operators or businesses.
The new building will have 3,300 m² and will be adapted for the fishing industry. It will feature fish processing facilities, freezer and cold storage, and loading ramps for goods transport. In addition, there will be changing rooms, offices, and canteen facilities.
In 2024, Lerøy Seafood Group achieved the highest biomass production at sea in its history, with an unexpected growth in harvest volumes and nearly maximum license utilization by the end of the year.
Regarding this announcement, General Manager of Backe Bergen, Arne Kleivdal, said: "We look forward to implementing another great project together with WCI Eiendom. We are already well underway with the preparations, and expect to start work on the site during January."
Also, Ole Kristian Johannessen at WCI Eiendom noted: "We are very pleased that we are now starting to develop this property that we purchased in 2021. We saw potential in being able to develop it and have buildings constructed that would bring life to the area."
