Tesco has announced that it will offer 100% Scottish-sourced fresh salmon in its stores across Scotland. This move is supported by a 44% volume growth in its Finest Scottish Salmon range, both fresh and smoked, during 2024.

Therefore, the UK's largest supermarket chain aims to support Scottish suppliers and producers and promote high-quality product production. Also, Tesco currently works with producer groups to help them plan and invest in increasingly sustainable and transparent practices.

In the same line, Tesco announced plans to integrate the Seafood Carbon Emissions Profiling Tool (SCEPT) across its seafood supply chain and products. This initiative aims to achieve net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2050, the company said.

"We're now delighted to announce we’ll be able to offer 100% Scotch beef and salmon to customers shopping in our Scottish stores in Spring 2026. Through collaboration with our supplier partners, we are able to ensure that our products are the highest quality for our customers, benefiting both farmers and suppliers, and the Scottish economy," said Director of Meat, Fish, Poultry and Eggs Richard Wood.

In February, Tesco embarked on legal action against several of Norway's salmon farming heavyweights, following the European Commission investigation into anti-competitive conduct in spot sales of Atlantic salmon into the European market during the period 2011-2019.

Furthermore, in June 2024, a group of UK consumers launched their own lawsuit for price-fixing and collusion against salmon producers Mowi, Mowi Holdings, SalMar, Lerøy Seafood, Scottish Sea Farms, and Grieg Seafood, claiming financial compensation of up to £382 million.
