NCE Seafood Innovation has confirmed that interest in the seafood industry among young people has increased by more than 40%, according to application data received for this year's Trainee program.
The Seafood Trainee program welcomes graduates with bachelor's or master's degrees from various disciplines such as human resources, economics, technology, sustainability, animal health, fisheries, and aquaculture.
Also, NCE Seafood has launched a new digital career portal which allows a simpler and more flexible hiring process. Companies can search for and find profiles that best match their preferences.
"More than 800 young talents have shown a strong desire to contribute to the seafood industry. They bring with them updated expertise, fresh perspectives, and a passion for the profession," detailed Trude Hagland, cluster manager at NCE Seafood Innovation.
Among the companies that use their services is Grieg Seafood. "Most of our trainees have been offered permanent jobs with us after completing their trainee period when there has been an opening for this," assured Tom Thorgersen, General Manager of Grieg Seafood Sales AS.
This year's Seafood Innovation Award, organized by NCE Seafood Innovation, in collaboration with DNB, Pareto, Nordic USV, Invest in Bergen, and The North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF), will be presented during the North Atlantic Seafood Forum conference in Bergen in March.
Entrants will pitch their innovation in a showcase event, followed by a "speed date" session where they will meet potential investors, customers, and collaborators.
The winner will receive a cash prize of NOK 25,000, in addition to a year's free membership in NCE Seafood Innovation, 2 free NASF passes for 2025, and 3 months free membership in the Future Ocean Incubator.
