Seafood from Norway, the international marketing brand of the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), is once again supporting the UK's National Fish & Chip Day, which this year marks its 10th anniversary as one of the UK’s most popular food celebrations.

Organised by the National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association (NEODA), the 2025 celebration on Friday 6 June is billed as the biggest to date, with events planned across the UK and a special roadshow at London’s Trinity House.

Seafood from Norway has announced it will join industry partners at the roadshow, offering free fish and chips and engaging with the public to celebrate the milestone.

As a long-time supplier of cod and haddock to UK fish and chip shops, Norway sees National Fish & Chip Day as an important opportunity to recognise the sector’s contribution to communities and to highlight the close partnership between the UK and Norway on sustainable seafood, Victoria Braathen, UK Director at the Norwegian Seafood Council, said.

Fish and chips is an incredibly cherished part of British culture, and we’re proud to play a role in supporting the people and businesses who make it so special. Norway and the UK has a long-held seafood partnership and we’re honoured to be supplying high-quality, responsibly sourced whitefish to the sector,” Braathen said in a press release.

NEODA is running a series of social media competitions in the lead-up to the day, encouraging both operators and customers to take part in the nationwide event.

Gary Lewis, President of NEODA, described the anniversary as "a significant milestone", and said the event had enjoyed "incredible support from fish and chip shops across the UK" over the past decade.

"Fish and chip shops are at the heart of our communities, and getting involved in this celebration is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the quality and tradition of this family favourite.  We encourage all shops to take part and share in the pride and joy that National Fish and Chip Day represents," Lewis added.
