Aquaticode has become part of SEADEEP, a newly launched Horizon Europe initiative supported by the European Union's flagship research and innovation funding programme, according to an announcement shared by the company's CEO, Stian Rognlid, on LinkedIn.
SEADEEP brings together leading producers, research institutions, and technology companies from across Europe to promote more sustainable and energy-efficient practices throughout the aquaculture and fisheries value chain.
More specifically, the initiative focuses on developing and demonstrating digital, energy-efficient solutions for the fisheries, aquaculture, and macroalgae cultivation sectors across the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions.
In this way, the project aims to reduce emissions, lower operating costs, and improve resource efficiency, while strengthening Europe’s position in sustainable seafood production.
The initiative also brings together producers such as Lerøy Seafood Group ASA and Nordic SeaFarm, research partners including Akvaplan-niva, AZTI and Fraunhofer IIS, as well as industry companies such as OxyGuard International.
"For our part, we bring Aquaticode’s AI-powered phenotyping and sorting technology to the consortium. SEADEEP represents an opportunity to expand the impact of this technology by applying it to additional stages of the production chain and across a broader range of species," Rognlid posted.
The project, which started on 1 June and will continue until 2029 (Grant Agreement 101296119), is coordinated by the Swedish Environmental Research Institute IVL, which is also responsible for overall project management, environmental assessment, and ensuring that the solutions deliver measurable benefits.
