In 2024, Camanchaca recertified its Energy Management System (SGE) under the international ISO 50,001 standard for the second consecutive year. This recertification across all its Divisions involves reducing its carbon footprint through more sustainable operational practices.

In more detail, the Chilean company reported that the accumulated energy savings amounted to 14,000,874 kWh, equivalent to the energy consumption of 1,732 households. Camanchaca's energy savings are equivalent to the energy consumption of 1,179 cars.

Regarding this achievement, Ricardo García, General Manager of Camanchaca, highlighted: "We are encouraged by this certification, which shows that our continuous efforts and commitment to a more sustainable operation are verified and demonstrated by independent entities."

"We know that, in the context of climate change, the sea is key to feeding the world with healthy and nutritious products that have a lower carbon footprint than land-based foods. But that’s not enough. Even though we are producers of very low-carbon footprint proteins, we can make further contributions to a cleaner planet; that will never end," he added.

The international standard ISO 50,001

Through the international standard ISO 50,001, organizations strive to implement and improve energy management systems to reduce consumption and associated costs, while minimizing environmental impact.

Camanchaca is the first Chilean fishing and aquaculture company to achieve recertification. According to the Energy Sustainability Agency, up to 27 companies have earned this distinction.

Additionally, in 2019 and 2023, the salmon producer carried initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions at its processing plants in Tomé, Rauco, and Coronel and implemented its Energy Sustainability Policy.

"Our efforts break the myths that the seafood industry is not sustainable and does not care about protecting the environment; we prove with our actions and results that we do," concluded García.

Also, during the 12 months ending in September 2024, Salmones Camanchaca reduced antibiotic use by 40% and antiparasitic use by 9% compared to the same period in 2022.
