The aquaculture company Aquna Sustainable Murray Cod (MCA) has been awarded 3-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification for its farm, feed, and processing facility.

In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025, MCA reported a 298% year-on-year increase in biomass and a 33.5% rise in customer receipts. The company has also expanded its retail presence in Australia, doubling its footprint in Woolworths stores across New South Wales and Victoria.

This third-party certification is based on compliance with practices related to environmental responsibility, social responsibility, food safety, and animal health and welfare, and it covers the entire production chain.

In addition, BAP is recognized by over 200 leading companies and is aligned with international sustainability benchmarks such as GFSI, GSSI, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Thanks to this recent achievement, MCA expects to strengthen its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, attract investors focused on sustainable and ethical business practices, and further position its operations toward markets in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

"Obtaining BAP certification is a testament to our dedication to responsible aquaculture and opens doors to new markets that value responsible farmed seafood production," stated MCA's CEO, Ross Anderson.

On February 1, Katherine Bryar will assume the role of Chief Sales and Marketing Officer (CSMO) at the Australian company. The aquaculture marketing specialist will leave BioMar and return to her native Australia to lead the global growth strategy of the premium Murray cod producer.
