Its private-label products are 100% Spanish and fully traceable.
El Corte Ingles
The Spanish department store chain El Corte Inglés has committed to increasing its range of MSC- and ASC-certified fish at its fresh food counters by at least 3%, maintaining more than 60% of its certified aquaculture offering, and expanding these certifications.
It is the first retail company in Spain to hold MSC and ASC Chain of Custody certifications for fresh fish, covering more than 180 counters across its various supermarkets.
El Corte Inglés is therefore continuing to "bring" sustainable fishing closer to consumers by promoting products sourced from responsibly managed fisheries and aquaculture operations.
The company has also set a target for at least 30% of the products in the Nutrition and Wellness category and at least 25% of baby products to carry organic certification.
In addition to fresh fish, it offers certified products in frozen foods, canned goods, and processed seafood products, extending this commitment to an increasing number of categories.
Finally, the company is developing circular economy initiatives aimed at extending the useful life of products and reducing resource consumption. Its policy of promoting local products is also justified by its contribution to strengthening the regional economy and protecting the environment. Guaranteed traceability through its private-label products, with 100% Spanish origins, is another of the company’s major achievements.
"Through these commitments and objectives, the company continues to evolve its commercial offering in order to contribute to a more responsible consumption model, while always maintaining the quality, trust and service that characterize El Corte Inglés," the company stated in a press release.
