The animal health and welfare company specializing in botanical and biotechnological solutions for aquaculture Sudvet has joined the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI) as an Associate Member.
Sudvet was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. The company aims to reduce the use of antibiotics and antiparasitic treatments in salmon production. It currently works with Chilean producers but is expanding its presence in Norway, Australia, and Scotland.
GSI is an international initiative that brings together leading companies in the farmed salmon industry to promote sustainability and collectively address some of the sector's key challenges.
Last month, the organization published its 2025 Sustainability Report, covering 11 producer companies operating in Canada, Chile, Norway, and Tasmania, and providing the most comprehensive publicly available dataset in the sector.
The report's most notable findings highlight significant progress in sustainability, including a 68% reduction in antibiotic use, a 79% reduction in sea lice treatments, and lower reliance on fishmeal and fish oil since 2013. In addition, 65% of production is ASC-certified.
