The Norwegian company Normex has been granted a patent for its Razone technology, whose main function is to improve and control water quality in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).

In this way, biological risk is reduced, especially during the intensive phases of juvenile fish production, where even small fluctuations in water quality can have significant consequences.

Regarding this achievement, Normex CEO Stig Ove Johansen said: "Stable water quality is essential for fish health and production in RAS facilities. Razone has been developed to give farmers better control, more predictable operations, and improved fish welfare."

From now on, Normex will be able to strengthen its presence in the sector both in Norway and internationally, and it will provide customers and partners with greater confidence when choosing its services.

"This is an important milestone for us and confirms the relevance of Razone in modern RAS facilities. With the patent in place, we have a clearer foundation for further development and implementation in commercial RAS environments," Johansen added.

In August 2025, Normex signed a contract with Mirae Aquafarm, an innovative land-based salmon farm located in Pohang, on the east coast of South Korea. This agreement marked an important breakthrough for the Norwegian aquatech firm in Asia, as it represents its first major venture in the region.

The contract included the supply and installation of its Razone water treatment system throughout the salmon farming facility. Moreover, in addition to the main delivery, the Norwegian aquatech firm will also supply solutions for wastewater, intake water, and pre-harvest purification (purge).
