The Center for Aquaculture Technologies Canada (CATC) has rebranded to Onda, the company announced this week.

This change also includes a new logo for the Canada-based company, and the appointment of Myrna Gillis as CEO.

The rebrand follows the Canadian Center's recent spin-out from its US parent company, maintaining alignment but operating under separate governance, while both companies continue as "an integral part of the Cuna del Mar portfolio".

Onda, meaning "wave" in Latin, symbolizes the company's dedication to creating positive impacts and "ripple effects" in the aquaculture sector, the company said in a press release.

Onda's mission is to enhance the sustainability of aquaculture through strategic research and advanced technologies, the new CEO explained.

“As we look for ways to feed a growing population, aquaculture has the power to provide a sustainable solution; but it must be managed with great responsibility and care. At Onda, we’re on a mission to nurture a healthier and more sustainable world, starting with sustainable aquaculture,” said Gillis.

“Utilizing strategic and collaborative research and cutting-edge technologies we are committed to answering pressing questions to better understand our ocean environments and how we can improve the quality, resilience and health of aquatic food sources," she added.

Onda's state-of-the-art facilities on Prince Edward Island support a wide range of custom-designed trials, collaborating with pharmaceutical companies, aquatic farms, vaccine manufacturers, and feed producers.

The company offers bespoke services, pathogen libraries, and customizable models to aid in product innovation and regulatory compliance. Onda is also GMP and GLP certified, ensuring high standards in its operations, the company said.
