Amar Seafood has congratulated Dr. Eduardo Jiménez Fernández, Head of R&D at Otter Ferry Seafish, on his appointment to the advisory board of the Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Cluster Ltd. (SAIC).
The SAIC is a UK-based organisation that promotes innovation and research in sustainable aquaculture, particularly in Scotland. It aims to bring together companies, researchers, universities and other industry stakeholders to develop solutions to some of the key challenges facing the aquaculture sector.
Earlier this month, it announced the appointment of the first sector advisory committee of its new era. The committee is now made up of 15 experts from the Scottish aquaculture sector and beyond, and Eduardo Jiménez Fernández is part of this select group.
This new role recognises his extensive work and expertise in research and aquaculture, with a focus on marine aquaculture, fish welfare and sustainable production.
"We're proud to have you as part of the team and look forward to seeing the knowledge and perspectives you’ll bring to the advisory board," Amar Seafood said in a statement.
In November 2024, Amar Seafood acquired 100% of Otter Ferry Seafish. The Norwegian company describes Otter Ferry as a strategic hub for aquaculture, R&D, and innovation in Scotland, complementing its operations in Norway and Canada.
Otter Ferry played a leading role in establishing the production of halibut, wrasse, and lumpfish. In addition, it has also been instrumental in the development of trout farming, land-based salmon farming, and the production of salmon broodstock and smolt.
