Aquaculture supplier Steen-Hansen announced yesterday that Marcus Bentzen is its new Head of Development. According to the Norwegian company, with this appointment, it is strengthening its commitment to innovative solutions for aquaculture and other marine industries.

Market leader in net impregnation for aquaculture, with a presence in major industrialized aquaculture regions—including Norway, Chile, the UK and the Mediterranean—Steen-Hansen said that, with this appointment, it seeks to reinforce that leadership, reaffirming its goal of reducing the environmental footprint of the global aquaculture industry.

The company added that, in assuming the role of Global R&D Manager, Bentzen will have overall responsibility for the continued development of future-oriented products and technologies for a more sustainable aquaculture industry, a task the new Head of Development is enthusiastic about, given that it means contributing to the future development of one of Norway's most important industries.

"I am very much looking forward to taking on the role of Global R&D Manager at Steen-Hansen. Seafood is Norway's most important export industry, and it is both exciting and meaningful to work on developing solutions that can contribute to a more sustainable and competitive aquaculture industry – both in Norway and internationally," Marcus Bentzen said.

According to Steen-Hansen, at just 31 years old, Bentzen has already built a solid professional career in materials science and chemistry. "Marcus will have to accept being described as 'young and promising' in a company with more than 90 years of tradition," the statement read.

Most recently, he comes from a PhD position at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where he conducted research on functional materials in demanding environments, including interfaces between solid materials and liquids, long-term stability, and the relationship between material structure and performance.

In addition, the company said that he also has extensive experience in laboratory work, material characterization and modelling, as well as teaching at the university level. "We are very proud to have Marcus join our team," said Ulrik Ulriksen, CEO of Steen-Hansen Group.

"He brings solid expertise, high energy, and many good ideas. The aquaculture industry faces complex challenges, and innovation is absolutely crucial to finding solutions that safeguard the environment, fish welfare, and economic sustainability," Ulriksen concluded.
