New Zealand seafood firm Sanford Limited has appointed David Mair, a current director of the company, as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective from May 1, 2024.

Mair brings extensive leadership experience, having previously served as CEO of construction products manufacturer Skellerup Holdings Limited, and playing a significant role at dairy company a2 Milk. He has also served on the Sanford board since 2022.

His accomplishments include receiving the Deloitte Top 200 CEO of the Year in 2021 and the Johnson Partners Leadership Award in 2022.

Mair takes over from Craig Ellison, who has been serving as interim CEO since the resignation of Peter Reidie in August 2023.

New leader for an "iconic" New Zealand business

The company noted in a press announcement that the appointment follows a comprehensive selection process. Sir Rob McLeod, Chair of Sanford, said the company is "very fortunate to have David as CEO," adding, "I am confident that he will deliver exceptional results."

"It is a privilege to have this opportunity to lead Sanford, an iconic NZ business," Mair said in a press release.

"I appreciate the support of the Board and look forward to working with the people I have already met and meeting those I haven’t. I am excited about seeing Sanford reach its potential as a sustainable high-quality seafood supplier, rewarding both shareholders and staff,” Mair added.

Mair will continue to serve on the Sanford board as an Executive Director. Outgoing interim CEO Craig Ellison will continue as a non-independent director on the board.

“The Board would like to thank Craig for his excellent service during this interim period as acting CEO,” said McLeod.
