NAIA promotes the responsible development of the aquaculture industry
The Newfoundland and Labrador Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA) has announced the arrival of its new Executive Director, Keith Sullivan. He will focus on the sustainability of coastal communities.
Before, Sullivan held several executive positions including President of Newfoundland and Labrador's largest private sector Union, FFAW-Unifor.
Regarding this hiring, NAIA President Sheldon George indicated: "I am very confident that Keith can ensure the positive impact of sustainable aquaculture is effectively communicated and understood in this province and abroad, by educating everyone with facts and science about our industry."
Additionally, the new Director expressed: "Throughout my career, I have been advocating for sustainable development of coastal communities and promoting seafood from Newfoundland and Labrador. Working with the aquaculture industry is an amazing opportunity to work in a community with so much potential to do great things in our province."
An advocate on behalf of its members to facilitate and promote the responsible development of the aquaculture industry, the Newfoundland and Labrador Aquaculture Industry Association is a member-based organization that represents the interests of seafood farmers and their suppliers in this Atlantic region of Canada.
In December 2024, NAIA issued a statement of appreciation in which it also denounced the influence of anti-farming salmon activists in the federal government. In its view, non-governmental organizations should be legally required to operate independently of any government and should not receive government grants from taxpayers' money.
