Skretting has appointed experienced aquaculture analyst Chris van Bussel as its a new product manager for land-based aquaculture.

A RAS specialist with a PhD in this field, van Bussel's new role sees him returning to previous employer Skretting to focus on the land-based aquaculture sector, after four years working for Norwegian seafood consultancy Kontali.

Van Bussell previously worked for Skretting for almost seven years, first as a researcher and then as Global Marketing Manager from 2017, responsible for the global strategy and business development of the company's warm water fish segment, including sea bass and sea bream, tilapia, catfish, barramundi and seriola.

He moved to leading seafood analysis and insights provider Kontali as a Senior Analyst in 2020. In 2022 he also took on the role of Innovation Manager at the Norwegian seafood consultancy.

Van Bussell's new role at the Nutreco-owned aquafeed specialist reflects the growing importance of land-based aquaculture for the aquaculture feed sector.

Skretting is currently involved as a partner in several land-based projects, including Icelandic hybrid flow-through salmon project Laxey, and describes itself as "a global leader in feed to closed aquaculture systems (CAS) farms".
