DNV signed an agreement to acquire Åkerblå Group, a leading Norwegian marine health company. Following the acquisition, DNV seeks to strengthen its portfolio of aquaculture and offshore renewable energy services in Europe, while Åkerblå Group will be able to fulfill its expansion ambitions.
"Aquaculture is the fastest growing sector in food production and will play a decisive role in meeting the growing global demand for protein. DNV already offers several services to the aquaculture industry, mainly related to infrastructure, supply chains, management system certification, and digitalization. Combining these activities with Åkerblå Group's world-leading fish health and biodiversity expertise, we create an aquaculture powerhouse capable of supporting businesses at all levels," said Geir Fuglerud, CEO of Supply Chain & Product Assurance at DNV.
Both companies share a common goal: sustainable growth in aquaculture. Thus, with the recent acquisition, both Åkerblå Group and DNV align their objectives. On the one hand, Åkerblå Group gains substantial support for its global expansion plans. On the other hand, DNV further strengthens its longstanding strategy of promoting safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the marine industry. Furthermore, the collaboration opens up opportunities for enhanced product quality through joint efforts and expertise.
"I look forward to the positive change we can achieve together for our customers, our employees, and the industry as a whole," said Roger Sørensen, CEO of Åkerblå Group.
Finally, Remi Eriksen, CEO of DNV, explained that this compromise of the company was a landmark agreement regarding knowledge-based solutions. "Åkerblå Group complements many of our services and adds considerable new expertise to DNV in life sciences. We look forward to creating greater value for our customers in aquaculture and offshore renewables, both in and outside Europe."
