Japanese seafood giant Nissui has acquired Maxima Seafood, a leading processor in the Netherlands. The announcement was made on social media, welcoming Maxima to the Nissui family.

Based in Ijmuiden, Netherlands, Maxima Seafood has been active since 1974, specializing in seafood procurement, processing, and distribution. Benefiting from its North Sea location, Maxima offers a variety of products, including sole, turbot, plaice, cod, scallops, salmon, and tuna fillets.

Nissui, the world's second-largest seafood company, is well-established in Europe with subsidiaries like Cite Marine, Nordic Seafood, Halieutis, Europacifico, and JP Klausen. This acquisition builds on Nissui's European presence, including the 2021 acquisition of 75% of UK processor Three Oceans. Nissui has also integrated Three Oceans with Caistor Seafoods (acquired in 2017) and gained a 75% stake in UK seafood processor Flatfish in 2019.
