Construction works for a white-legged shrimp aquaculture farm have kicked off in the Wilayat of Shinas, in the northern Al Batinah Governorate, marking the official start of the project, according to Oman's official news agency, Omani.
This project has involved an investment of 23.5 million Omani rials (around 51.5 million euros) and will cover an area of 15 hectares, with an annual scheduled production of 7,500 tons of white-legged shrimp. With these figures, it could become one of the largest aquaculture projects in the Sultanate of Oman.
This initiative is driven by the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which aims to increase investments and business activities in the country across non-oil sectors.
Additionally, it seeks to boost the local economy, provide new investment opportunities, and generate direct employment for Omani youth, the news agency stated in a press release.
In line with this new investment policy, Oman Bio Products Company, a subsidiary of Oman Flour Mills, launched in January the first phase of an animal and aquaculture feed plant in Khazaen Economic City, South Al Batinah Governorate.
The first phase will have an annual production capacity of 48,000 tonnes of animal feed and 15,000 tonnes of aquaculture feed. The estimated construction cost amounts to OMR 36 million (approximately €80.3 million).
