Frøy is strengthening its sustainability efforts and has hired Petter Jønvik to lead the task. According to his LinkedIn profile, the new Head of ESG - an acronym for Environmental, Social and Governance but often called just sustainability - has been in the position since February, although it is only now that the Norwegian wellboat specialist has announced his appointment.
Jønvik himself - thrilled about his new role - noted that the creation of his position in Frøy management is a clear sign that the Group is firmly committed to sustainability. "What attracted me to Frøy is that the company is well-positioned in large parts of the aquaculture industry's value chain and is proactive in its work," he pointed out.
"There is a clear willingness to change, and we are already well underway with digitalizing our work and services. These are essential elements to prepare us for the changes society is going through and to deliver sustainable solutions to our customers. It is through collaboration, transparency, and involvement that we achieve the best results," he continued.
With a degree in civil engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) with a specialization in sustainability, Petter Jønvik also has more than 15 years of experience in sustainability work, holding leadership positions in both, international and Norwegian companies such as the Wilhelmsen Group and Statnett.
"I have been fortunate to work in companies that take sustainability seriously and have invested in it. At both Wilhelmsen and Statnett, I have been involved in building up sustainability both strategically and operationally," he explained.
His task now is to transfer that experience and knowledge to Frøy to further systematize the company's sustainability efforts by setting goals and creating and implementing a clear strategy within the business to achieve them. The new Head of Sustainability emphasized that he will not be doing this alone.
"For me, it is important to get out and become familiar with the entire organization. The people who perform the daily work are our most important resources for advancing our sustainability efforts. Anchoring this in the entire organization is key to success," he noted.
Upon arriving at his new position at Frøy, Jønvik took stock of the significant development that has taken place in the field of sustainability since he began his career at the Wilhelmsen Group in 2006. "Previously, sustainability work was largely seen as part of corporate social responsibility and was voluntary. Owners and investors had little knowledge of the field, and we rarely received difficult questions," Petter Jønvik recalled.
"Now, it is no longer enough to say that a company is sustainable; it must be demonstrated through commitments, goal achievements, and much more detailed reporting. Authorities, owners, investors, and banks have entirely different requirements today, and these demands are increasing. We will elevate Frøy to be a leader in sustainability and secure a strong position to contribute to sustainable growth in the industry," he concluded.
Jønvik's newly created position is not the only new development at Frøy. Recently, we also learned about the company's newly formed team responsible for recruitment, onboarding, employer branding, and competence development, which will be led by Anders Skaare, who has been appointed Head of Talent.
