Hima Seafood has confirmed that its land-based aquaculture farm in Rjukan is now fully completed and operational, producing top-quality trout. The construction began in May 2021, and the first batch was successfully transferred from Fry to Ongrow 1 in July 2024.
The world's largest land-based trout farm, based on RAS technology, was developed with the support of Totalbetong AS and Eyvi AS, and it will produce around 9,000 tonnes of premium Hima® Trout — equivalent to 22 million dinners per year.
The Norwegian company successfully secured financing for its project through two global infrastructure funds with a strong focus on sustainability. Additionally, the project was backed by a Sweden-based debt fund, according to exclusive statements to WeAreAquaculture.
Additionally, MMC First Process announced a partnership with Eyvi AS for the delivery of a fish logistics system to the Rjukan facility. Over three decades, MMC First Process has been gaining experience by supplying the well boat industry and land-based aquaculture.
"A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey — from the dedicated Hima team, Eyvi, and Totalbetong, to our subcontractors and all the partners involved over the years. Your effort, teamwork, and innovative spirit made this achievement possible," the company wrote in a publication.
