The Spanish Fisheries Producers Organizations Association, Pesca España, organized an event at the Mercado del Val in Valladolid to highlight the importance of traceability in products as a guarantee of quality, food safety, and sustainability.
Through tests and games, attendees were trained on how to access safe and high-quality fish and seafood, and how to request information about the origin, fishing methods, or even the name of the fishing vessel in fishmongers, supermarkets, or hypermarkets.
Additionally, tastings of these iconic Spanish fish species were offered: hake in panko with shrimp béchamel and green pilpil, tuna tartare with Albariño jelly, and monkfish skewers with vegetables and lobster sauce.
"Labeling is, in many ways, the ID card of fish. And this information not only strengthens consumer trust but also highlights the sector's commitment to transparency. We have an opportunity to continue developing this tool, making it clearer, more attractive, and more accessible to new generations," explained Antonio Nieto, manager of Pesca España.
Just a few days ago, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA) advocated for control and traceability standards that seafood products in Spain must meet to promote the recovery of fish consumption.
