Maruha Nichiro Corporation has reached a comprehensive business collaboration agreement with Senko Group Holdings Co., Ltd. to enhance the corporate value of both companies, primarily in the logistics sector.

This year, marking the 145th anniversary of its founding, Maruha Nichiro set in March the goal of "For the Ocean, For Life 2027" to promote the health of people and the planet through its food products.

In line with this, logistics and distribution company Senko emphasizes the supply chain's connection to achieving sustainable growth and creating new trends in terms of products and services.

Therefore, this partnership aims to share Senko's transportation and delivery functions, pool personnel training systems, and develop joint strategies related to international operations.

Additionally, both companies will share the supply of food ingredients to various facilities and food service/restaurants and utilize the feedback received to develop new products and services.

A 2025 beginning marked by transformations and expansion

The same day the seafood giant announced its new management plan, it also decided to change its trade name to 'Umios', which means "ocean" or "sea" in Japanese. With the word 'Umi,' the Group returned to its origins when the focus was on a commitment to solving global social issues through food.

One month later, it announced that it would commercialize a new aquaculture species: cobia. Starting in May 2025, the company will begin trial sales of this high-fat white-fleshed fish known in Japan as "sugi". It is a species quite attractive to the aquaculture industry, as, thanks to its rapid growth, it requires fewer production inputs.

Seafood Connection Holding (SFCH), a subsidiary of Maruha Nichiro Corporation, completed the acquisition of a 70% majority stake in the Dutch processing company Van der Lee Seafish (VDLEE), thereby expanding its presence in Europe.
