SeaFish presents seafood carbon emissions tool

The Seafood Carbon Emissions Profiling Tool (SCEPT) helps businesses to identify its products carbon footprint.

Rocio Álvarez Jiménez

The UK seafood industry trade group SeaFish has presented the Seafood Carbon Emissions Profiling Tool (SCEPT) to help the industry understand and identify the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) of their seafood products.

According to SeaFish, seafood products usually have several critical areas, through the supply chain and encompass activities that produce more GHG emissions.

The SCEPT provides enough data and information so that businesses can make advance plans and decisions in line with the documentation collected. The tool is funded by the Fisheries and Seafood Scheme for England.

Additionally, the design has been done by Blonk Sustainability Tools, an international environmental footprinting software developer and data/methodology specialist.

The SeaFish project will contribute to reaching the seafood sector's decarbonized ambitions in line with the Paris Agreement (COP21) and to keep with the efforts of limiting warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
