The Norweigan government has published its Climate Action Plan for 2021–2030 which promotes the development of low- and zero-emission solutions in the aquaculture industry. Thereby, the Government will introduce requirements where possible.
For example, there will be lower emissions from more and more of the vessels and trucks that transport fish from fish farms to the markets. In more detail, the aim is to reduce domestic shipping and fishing vessels by half compared with the 2005 level.
Consequently, there will be further green growth and more competitiveness in the Norwegian maritime industry. Also, it will facilitate an increase in exports of low- and zero-emission technology in the maritime sector.
According to the government, some segments of the maritime industry are already leading the way in the green transformation of the sector. Hopefully, ship designers, technology companies and clusters, and workers at Norwegian shipyards enter too into the green transition.
In addition, the plan mentions the need to improve transport systems and packaging and reduce food waste and energy use. Besides, it points to all stakeholders in the food industry as responsible for that transition to a more sustainable food system.
Finally, it advises that people should be able to choose healthy, sustainable, climate-friendly food. Furthermore, follow a diet that helps to reduce emissions. The government will encourage them to eat more fish, whole-grain foods, fruit and vegetables, and limit the amount of red meat and processed meat in their diet.
