Bern Aqua becomes Belgium's first BAP-certified feed producer

Bern Aqua, a leading supplier of hatchery and nursery feeds for fish and shrimp, has become Belgium's first producer to receive Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification.

Its feed mill in Olen meets the enhanced traceability, responsible sourcing, and third-party certified feed production requirements that this distinction recognizes and rewards.

Bern Aqua, part of ADM, one of the world's largest agribusiness and nutrition companies, supplies feed to hatcheries and nursery farms in more than 50 countries and has nearly 25 years of experience in the aquaculture industry.

One of the company's flagship products is its cold-extruded feed technology, which helps preserve the nutritional value of ingredients. Bern Aqua produces aquafeed pellets ranging in size from 5 microns to 3 millimeters, specifically formulated to meet the nutritional requirements of different aquatic species.

"This achievement, as with our organic certification and other accreditations, demonstrates how Bern Aqua is well-positioned to continue driving progress and enhancing our competitive edge in the field of early life nutrition," expressed Plant Manager Sam Valgaeren.

Additionally, Sébastien Metz of the Market Development Team at the Global Seafood Alliance said: "Feed plays a critical role in the aquaculture supply chain, and this achievement reflects their leadership in creating a more responsible future for global seafood production."

Last month, BAP launched its new Seafood You Can Trust marketing toolkit, which provides data, insights, and resources to help retailers and foodservice operators communicate their commitment to responsible seafood sourcing at the point of purchase.

The Seafood You Can Trust toolkit includes in-store signage, digital banners, social media content, and recipe-based storytelling. These tools can be adapted for in-store displays, weekly recipes, social media engagement, and ongoing staff training through infographics and video content.
