Gloria Maris Côte d’Opale has become the first French seabass and seabream farm to achieve certification under the ASC Seabream and Seabass Standard.
Thanks to this distinction, French consumers will have greater access to farmed seafood products that meet ASC’s environmental and social requirements.
The farm is located in the Hauts-de-France region, where it benefits from favorable conditions for farming seabass and seabream. It has been in operation since 1982, and its products are supplied to foodservice professionals, fishmongers, and premium retail markets.
Before obtaining certification, Gloria Maris Côte d’Opale underwent an audit by a Conformity Assessment Body (CAB), which verified compliance with the requirements set out in the ASC Seabass and Seabream Standards.
"As a pioneer, Gloria Maris Côte d’Opale is leading the way and demonstrating that a transparent and responsible French aquaculture sector can meet the highest environmental and social standards," said Maxime Engler, ASC France Market Development Manager.
In addition, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Gloria Maris Group, Bastien Riera noted: "Achieving ASC certification is an important recognition of the work carried out by our teams over many years. This certification reflects our commitment to contributing to the development of a responsible, transparent, and demanding French aquaculture sector."
According to the latest global research published by ASC, consumers are increasingly associating sustainable seafood with health, quality, and food safety. The survey, conducted among nearly 15,000 consumers across 14 countries, highlights that sustainability is becoming increasingly closely linked to these purchasing priorities.
