The Peruvian Ministry of Production (Produce) hosted the Triangular Cooperation Mission between Peru and Uruguay on the Circular Economy, an initiative driven by the ProInnóvate Program, the National Agency for Business Development (ANDE) of Uruguay, and German Development Cooperation (GIZ).
The Peruvian Deputy Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Industry, César Quispe Luján, highlighted this meeting as an opportunity for knowledge exchange and strengthening sustainable production models in MSMEs of both countries.
Thanks to the circular economy, Quispe stated that MSMEs will be able to produce goods and services, optimize costs, improve processes making them more sustainable, and generate quality employment.
In 2024, Produce granted $106.67 million to benefit 5,000 micro and small businesses for their development and the promotion of fishing and aquaculture in the country. Additionally, the agency has worked to raise awareness among more than 7,000 MSMEs on the adoption of sustainable practices.
"This mission is a milestone in our sustainability agenda. Uruguay and Peru share a common vision: to strengthen the competitiveness of our MSMEs through more sustainable production models, with innovation and technology serving development," stated Quispe Luján.
Education on Circular Economy
Officials and entrepreneurs from both countries are scheduled to participate in presentations on circular economy initiatives, networking workshops, and visits to Peruvian institutions and companies that have successfully implemented circular models.
This project is supported by the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI) and the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI), consolidating the commitment of both countries to sustainability and regional competitiveness.
