Ace Aquatec launches new AI technology to improve salmon harvesting

A-HARVESTCAM® provides processors with real-time insights into fish weight, quality, and yield.

Ace Aquatec has introduced its new AI-powered camera system, A-HARVESTCAM®, designed to automatically monitor fish during salmon harvesting and processing.

Thanks to AI, this tool automatically counts and weighs fish while also analysing weight distribution, quality and harvest performance.

This allows processors to identify differences between different groups of fish and adapt production accordingly, optimise yields and allocate products to higher-value markets.

"Because they can see what’s coming through in real time, they can give secondary processors a much better sense of what’s heading their way, helping everyone plan ahead, make more informed sales decisions and ultimately get the best value from every fish," explained Tara McGregor-Woodhams, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Ace Aquatec.

In addition, these data can be fed back into Ace Aquatec's A-BIOMASS® underwater cameras. Using advanced algorithms, the system can improve weight estimates, enabling producers to predict biomass more accurately and plan future harvests with greater confidence.

Finally, the A-FISHIQ® platform displays all data in real time across different processing lines and production sites, eliminating the need for labour-intensive manual measurements.

"When you bring that together with welfare and quality insights, you start to build a much richer picture of performance across the whole journey. For our customers, that means better visibility, more confidence in their decisions and, ultimately, a stronger and more transparent supply chain," McGregor-Woodhams added.

A-HARVESTCAM® has been designed for all types of aquaculture environments and, as it is manufacturer-agnostic technology, it can be seamlessly integrated with processing lines, stunning systems and other types of infrastructure.

This latest technology from Ace Aquatec is already being used by Scottish salmon producer Scottish Sea Farms and seafood processor Aquascot, as well as by several salmon farming companies in Chile.
