The aquaculture technology and solutions company, ELDI Aqua, has announced it will supply Lerøy Sjøtroll with a full-scale pilot facility featuring a newly developed sludge handling system.

BioSeize is a technology developed by ELDI Aqua for the collection and management of sludge in marine aquaculture facilities, particularly in offshore fish farms.

The award of this full-scale pilot installation to Lerøy represents the first commercial deployment of this technology and an important step toward its industrial adoption in the aquaculture sector.

"The fact that Lerøy is choosing BioSeize as the system for their sea site at the Blom location confirms that the technology meets a real need among a leading player in the industry. This is an important breakthrough in the transition from development to the commercial phase," said Thomas Myrvold, CEO of ELDI Group.

Thanks to this system, sludge can be handled more gently, reducing processing requirements, increasing the value of the end product, and facilitating its further conversion into products such as fertilizers or biofuels.

Regarding this, CTO of ELDI Group, Yngve Askeland, detailed: "BioSeize is developed to handle sludge more gently, while the system has significantly lower energy consumption and requires less space on board the fleet. The design of the net and collection system ensures full separation of sludge and dead fish, and significantly simplifies installation, operation, and maintenance."

In May, Rotor Systems and ELDI Aqua formed a partnership called Rotor Aqua to develop and commercialize technology, automation, and digitalization solutions for aquaculture, combining the expertise of both companies.
