The Netherlands-based algae oil producer Veramaris has appointed Mark van Nieuwland as its new CEO, who will assume the position on January 1, 2026, succeeding Gertjan de Koning.
Regarding his appointment, van Nieuwland said: "I'm honored to take up this role, and look forward to building on the impressive track record of Veramaris as a leader in sustainable algal oil and a trusted supplier of Omega-3 EPA & DHA."
Meanwhile, Holger Kinzel, who joined Veramaris at the same time as Gertjan, will continue to serve as CFO/COO, a position he has held for the past three years.
Moreover, Ian Carr, currently Senior Director of Global Marketing, has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer, while Philip Eykerman, President of Strategy, M&A and Transformation at DMS-Firmenich, has become the new Chairman of the Veramaris Board.
All these structural changes reflect the company's new strategic approach to strengthening its services and providing reliable nutritional solutions to its partners in a more responsible way.
In the short term, Veramaris aims to deepen its partnerships, expand its operational presence, and make an impact on the industry through the supply of essential Omega-3 fatty acids from a certified and sustainable source.
In September, the company agreed to collaborate with Merwetank B.V. to build a bulk algae oil storage tank in Dordrecht, near Rotterdam, to boost supply security and sustainability.
Finally, Eykerman indicated: "Gertjan has transformed Veramaris from a struggling startup into a profitable, respected industry leader and built a compelling brand. The board would also like to thank Andre for his relentless support and passion during the entire journey from a daring idea to what we are today: a fully validated and market-leading enterprise with proven viability."
