The Netherlands-based algae oil producer, Veramaris, has agreed to collaborate with Merwetank B.V. to build a bulk algae oil storage tank in Dordrecht, near Rotterdam.
Merwetank B.V., based in the Netherlands, manages and stores bulk products, including food-grade liquids, and operates facilities that ensure the preservation of product quality.
With this new tank, Veramaris will be able to ship more algae oil in bulk—alongside other high-volume raw materials—directly to coastal aquafeed factories, reducing costs, complexity, and carbon emissions.
"This new setup brings our product much closer to customers' existing supply chains. It's a great example of how we're scaling up with our partners to support bulk deliveries and the continued growth of sustainable aquaculture," said Holger Kinzel, CFO of Veramaris.
Finally, Director at Merwetank, Wout de Jong, expressed: "We chose to work with them not only because we believe in their mission, but also because we trust their commitment, innovation, and integrity. This is a partnership built on shared values and a vision for long-term success together."
In 2023, Veramaris increased its production volume by 50% to meet the growing demand for alternative sources of Omega-3, EPA, and DHA for aquafeed, achieving this with only a marginal increase in its greenhouse gas emissions.
