Danish aquafeed ingredients company Unibio announced it has appointed Spencer White as Chief Financial Officer. The new CFO, who will take up his position on April 29, 2024, will join the executive management team and report directly to CEO David Henstrom.

With more than 30 years of experience behind him, White specializes in financial services and investment management. He comes from the corporate consulting firm TWL Pacific, of which he was the founding partner, and where he has provided strategic advisory and capital structuring services to a variety of early and growth-stage companies.

That expertise will be applied to Unibio at a time when the aquaculture sustainable feed ingredients company is in the midst of a growth spurt. Last year, it signed an agreement with the Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG) that invested USD 70 million (EUR 65.8 million) to boost its global production capacity, increase operational capabilities, and accelerate innovation and commercialization.

According to the release on the appointment, Spencer White brings a unique perspective on financing and growth challenges in a wide range of sectors, with a particular emphasis on emerging markets.

"We are thrilled to welcome Spencer to our management team as our Chief Financial Officer. His extensive experience in corporate finance, investment strategies, and proven success in helping companies raise capital will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in steering our Company towards sustained growth and success," said Unibio's CEO David Henstrom about the company's new signing.

That experience in corporate finance, capital raising, and mergers and acquisitions will be a significant element of his role at Unibio as he will work with the Board to identify other sources of investment for the company. In addition, his duties will also include leading the development and implementation of the sustainable protein company's global investment strategy, and he will be responsible for day-to-day financial operations.

Commenting on his appointment, Spencer White said he was looking forward to joining the team and highlighted the values he shares with the aquaculture feed ingredients company. "I am truly excited to join Unibio as Chief Financial Officer, a company with a noble mission to feed the planet through innovation and sustainable protein production," he said. "Unibio's commitment to produce feed & food in a planet-friendly way aligns with my belief that you can do good business and create significant positive impact simultaneously."

Unibio has developed a fermentation technology, the U-Loop® fermenter, capable of producing single-cell protein using methane, such as natural gas, and biogas, as feedstock. The result is Uniprotein®, a high-quality protein comparable to fishmeal and soybean meal. U-Loop® replicates a process that occurs every day in nature with the difference that the production of Uniprotein® requires no arable land, has very low water use, and has no negative impact on the Earth's ecosystem. The protein is currently approved as feed in the EU and is under development for human consumption.
