The Norwegian Seafood Council has hired Johnny Håberg as its new seafood envoy to Africa starting in the summer of 2024. He returns to the Council nearly a decade after being the envoy to Brazil from 2010 to 2015.
Then, Håberg occupied the position of Export Director at Salmon Brands till 2017. Also, he has was the CEO of the media agency giant OMD/Omnicom Media Group from 2004 to 2010.
Regarding his appointment, the new envoy to Africa expressed: "I feel very privileged to be able to work to promote some of our most traditional seafood products in Central and West Africa. This is a continent that undoubtedly has a bright future and will offer great opportunities for the Norwegian seafood industry in the years to come. I hope I can contribute to the success of Norwegian exporters with both existing and new products in the region."
On the other hand, Director, global operations at Norwegian Seafood Council said: "We look forward to benefiting from Johnny's background and experience, particularly in gathering data and translating it into market insights, and in addressing market access issues. It is gratifying to be able to utilize his experience and knowledge of the seafood industry. This enables us to continue our presence in the African region."
Johnny Håberg will replace Trond Kostveit, who has led the Seafood Council's work since its activity in Central and West Africa began in 2016.
Over the past five years, Norwegian seafood exports to Africa have risen to nearly 2 billion kroner. The main markets are Egypt, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Congo Brazzaville, Ghana, and Morocco.
