Skretting announced yesterday the appointment of Mads Martinsen as the new General Manager of Skretting Norway, where, until he takes office on June 1, he still holds the position of Product Development and Sustainability Director.

This is therefore an internal promotion, a widespread habit within the multinational aquafeed company, as we have seen in many of the appointments that have been taking place since the former CEO Therese Log Bergjord announced her resignation in April last year and was replaced by the current CEO, Bastiaan van Tilburg, who took office in June 2024.

In the case of Mads Martinsen, he takes up the position following Håvard Wald's move to become Skretting's new Managing Director for salmon operations in Australia, Chile, North America, and Norway, which we learned about earlier this month. And it was Walde, his predecessor, who commented on Martinsen's appointment on behalf of the company.

"We've gained a capable leader who knows the company well and has a strong commitment to aquaculture," said the Managing Director BU Salmon at Skretting. "I personally value the collaboration I've had with Mads and the Norwegian team and look forward to continuing it," he added.

Practically grown up on the edge of a fish pen

Mad Martinsen has been Director of Product Development and Sustainability at Skretting Norway for the past seven years. He joined the aquafeed company in 2011 as a newly graduated fisheries candidate from the University of Tromsø and quickly became head of the research station at Lerang before taking on responsibility for grower feeds in Norway in 2016.

"I've practically grown up on the edge of a fish pen, and I'm filled with both joy and a sense of awe at being given the opportunity to help drive the development of the feed side in Norwegian aquaculture. We have some fantastic opportunities to produce even more of the best and most sustainable food the world demands, so this is something I’m truly passionate about," the new General Manager for Skretting Norway stated.

"Fortunately, we're in a position to make this happen because we have partnership agreements in place that provide strong opportunities to create value through innovation, sustainability, and the development of products the industry both needs and wants," he continued.

"I believe in close contact and open dialogue — and that the key is to get in the same boat," Martinsen concluded, setting the tone for what will be his leadership at the helm of the Norwegian subsidiary of Nutreco's aquaculture feed business.
