From now on in Peru, the annual production of all aquaculture species within the Limited Resources Aquaculture (AREL) category must not exceed 10 gross tons.

This new regulation came into effect after the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) modified Article 10 of the General Aquaculture Law's regulations into three categories.

For bivalve mollusks of the Pectinidae family (scallops), the limit for the Micro and Small Enterprise Aquaculture (AMYPE) category will be 1,210 gross tons.

Lastly, for the Medium and Large Enterprise Aquaculture (AMYGE) category, the annual production will be greater than 1,210 gross tons.

These changes aim to facilitate investment, promote productive development, and foster business growth in aquaculture at the national level, the public entity has confirmed.

According to an index done by Yale and Columbia Universities, Peru is one of the best fishing performance countries in the world, and the best fishing performance country in South America.
