Spain promotes female leadership in the fishing sector

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food in Spain will celebrate the 8th Congress of the Spanish Network of Women in the Fisheries Sector on June 6th, under the theme 'Female Leadership and Generational Transition: Building a Blue Future'.

During the Congress, the challenges facing the sector will be addressed: consolidating female leadership in decision-making, ensuring generational transition for sustainability, and promoting the blue economy as a model for innovative and diverse development.

The event will also be attended by Minister Luis Planas, who will participate in the recognition ceremony for some of the most outstanding women in the fishing sector across various categories. Finally, there will be roundtables, presentations, and workshops focused on the topics mentioned.

This initiative brings together over 300 participants, including sector professionals, authorities, national and international experts, and third-sector organizations. Its goal is to highlight and recognize the role of women in the Spanish fishing and aquaculture sector.

In May, the Ministry announced the allocation of grants for 2025, totaling €550,000, aimed at associative entities within the fishing and aquaculture sectors. The goal of this is to promote activities that foster the integration of women in fisheries and support research and technological development.
